Alpaca Home’s Blankets are crafted from only the softest, pure 100% baby alpaca wool, luxuriously cozy and highly breathable, and certified by the International Alpaca Association in Peru.

Alpaca is known as a smart fiber, as it traps and releases heat; its hypoallergenic, and flame retardant too. This means you will be snug as a bug in a rug, regardless of the season. Alpaca is supremely breathable, reducing humidity around the body, making your relaxation even more serene and comfortable, with no more overheating. Alpaca fiber is one of the worlds most durable and strong textiles, plus its long, silky fibers are less likely to pill than wool or cashmere.

Natural colors are the result of the 22 standardly occurring hues of alpaca — completely free from man-made dyes, while our dyed shades are AZO free, colorfast, and highly saturated; making the perfect compliment to your living space.

About Alpacas!

Alpacas have no natural defenses and depend on humans for care and protection. There are no such thing as a wild alpaca, rather they have been tended for hundreds of years. Alpacas need to have their fleece shorn annually to insure their health and wellbeing.

Alpacas originated in the Andean mountains of South America but more than 40 years ago alpacas began finding new homes across the globe. There are several million alpacas worldwide with 94 percent living in South America. There are more than 200,000 alpacas in the USA, 350,000 in Australia and 45,000 in the UK.

The alpacas’ fleece, or wool, evolved to keep them warm in the high, arid, Altiplano, where it is common to have vast temperature changes from negative numbers well into the 70’s , within 24 hours. This fiber evolution is what makes alpaca wool so wonderful to experience and luxurious to use.

Nor does processing the alpaca wool use harsh chemicals, only gentle soap and water, so the environment and ultimately you, are protected.
